Just Because...
I was fortunate enough to have this playing on my alarm clock radio when it went off this morning. There is simply no better way to begin your day. Enjoy!
Google Waves Goodbye to E-Mail, Welcomes Real-Time Communication
Wave is a web-based application that marries multiple forms of communication and collaboration, including chat, mail and wikis, into a unified interface. Everything inside Wave happens in real time: You can even see a comment being made as the person is typing it, character-by-character. Google Wave, which was demonstrated Thursday at the Google I/O developer conference taking place here, is now live as a private developer preview. Conference attendees can start playing with it now, and Google has its eye on a public beta launch within a few months.
It’s a peculiar model we haven’t seen before, sort of a “chat inside e-mail” approach that has the potential to profoundly alter the way we share information and collaborate with one another.

The Electric Jet Ski
A San Francisco startup packed with endurance athletes and engineers from places like Apple is building an electric jet ski that could do for wave riding what Tesla Motors has done for driving. Eco Watercraft says the Eco1 will do more than 60 mph. As quick as that is, it’s nothing compared to the price. The little water rocket will go for $32,000 when it goes into production in 2011.
Texting May Be Taking a Toll
Spurred by the unlimited texting plans offered by carriers like AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless, American teenagers sent and received an average of 2,272 text messages per month in the fourth quarter of 2008, according to the Nielsen Company — almost 80 messages a day, more than double the average of a year earlier. The phenomenon is beginning to worry physicians and psychologists, who say it is leading to anxiety, distraction in school, falling grades, repetitive stress injury and sleep deprivation.
Volunteer vacations for surfers
I'm not sure how much time I'd spend 'volunteering' with waves like the one pictured, but it's a nice idea if nothing else. Click here to read more.
