I'm very much enjoying Julianna Barwick's album Florine. Although I'm bothered by musicians with boring, uncatchy names who refuse to come up with a title for their musical project (also known as a 'band name'), I will overlook it in this case because the sounds are so pleasing to my ear.Florine sets a mood similar to the one I find myself in while listening to Brian Eno's Music For Airports, one of my all time favorite compositions. From what I can tell, her music is primarily many layers of vocals, with some piano, and perhaps strings, all utilizing a bit of reverb and moments of delay. Think of the vocalists for Sigur Rós, but with a woman's voice (not a huge stretch of the imagination).
The only drawback was the difficulty I had acquiring the disc, since there is apparently only one place from which to order a hard copy. Visit Ms. Barwick's website for details and more information on her, or go to her MySpace page and have a listen.
